4460 3 1/4” Newel
The 4400 series of newels is our personal favorite. Our wood newels are turned on precision lathes and sanded smooth while still rotating to virtually eliminate the marks that are caused by tooling. The 4460 newel is for a stairs with a post to post handrail system. It is designed for a handrail to attach to the side of the newel with a rail bolt. The 4460 newel with an urn shape or hourglass is a classic design at home in any stairway. Our 4460 newel is a key member of a banister system that has wrought iron balusters. The 4460 works well with wood balusters that are painted, or stained in red oak, brazilian cherry, white oak, hickory, American cherry or other custom species. The 4460 newel can be mounted on a stair tread or on the landing tread. The 4460 newel will meet most stairway code requirements, but check with your local code enforcement official to be certain. The 4460 in brazilian cherry has been very poplar for homes with brazilian cherry floors and wrought iron balusters in coppervein and satin black. Red oak stair parts are an all time classic that will never fade. Longer versions of the post are available by special order. The newel is the strength of the stair parts system. A stair installer will invest more time in setting strong newels than any other stairpart. Many stair parts installers attach wood newels to the flooring system by cutting out a section of subfloor and notching the newel down and into the joists to create a strong stair system. The newel can be firmly attached to the stair tread, landing tread or floor with stair hardware such as our sure-tite system. Handrail can be attached either in an over the post system for pin top newels or to the side of the post with a post to post newel system. We suggest wood glue and mechanical fasteners with adequate clamping pressure for a strong stairway design. Brazilian cherry stair parts are increasing in demand and our availability is increasing.
