Product Description

False stair treads have a 1/2″ thick body with a full 1″ thick nosing. This product is perfect for stairs where the construction treads are already secured and carpet is going to be run through the middle of the stairway. Cove moulding and risers should be ordered separately.

All our False Treads are 6 1/2″ wide, with a depth of 11 1/4″. Left & Right Hand Return have an additional 1 1/4″ in width due to the attached return. False treads are designed to be cut and trimmed to fit by installers on the job site. Since the body of the tread is 1/2″ thick, it should match well to the thickness of the carpet and pad. The structure under the product should be secure. Dimensional lumber such as 2 x 10’s, 2 x 12’x, or 2 x 4’s form a good base for false treads. Construction adhesive and screws are recommend for attaching the false treads. The returns on the false treads are rounded for the proper appearance. If you need to trim the returns, a belt sander or palm sander and 60 grit sandpaper will get them rounded back to shape.

This style false tread is easy to use. It is a lot better than the the all in one that I have used in the past. The fit is better and I have less assembly time.

We have a lot of different stain options, I’d recommend you look at the options on Hard Maple & Red Oak to find exactly what you’re looking for. We typically recommend that you glue & nail them down.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

They are solid wood! We don’t do anything with plywood.
