StairSupplies was born in the mind of our customers. In 2001 Jen was building her dream home in southern Michigan and wanted a beautiful stairway. She could see what she wanted in her mind, but the stair parts she wanted were not available through normal sources. She wanted unique iron balusters with custom box newels. Len thought he could meet her need and Stair Supplies was born. Jen’s stairway was the first of many satisfied customers and beautiful stair creations. Today, Stair Supplies thrives on customizing stairways with iron balusters, the most extensive line of box newels available, a generous selection of handrails and the most beautiful turned newels that you can imagine. Many of our customers are like David, who is building a winter home in the Bahamas and wants stair treads made from cumaru to fit his exact dimensions. He wants priority handling for his shipment so that it can make it to his home in the Bahamas. Other customs, like Linda in Chicago have saved and planed for decades to build her last home and want the traditional look of cherry in finely detailed stair parts. StairSupplies uses Pennsylvania grown cherry with beautiful reds to produce a superior product. A growing number of customers are like Kristen. Kristen recently moved to the D.C. area and needs to remodel a home that was last updated in the Nixon era. She sent pictures of her old stairway and enlisted the advice of our stair specialists to make her remodeling project a success. Customers come from every US State, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, England and several African and South American countries to enjoy the quality and service that they receive with StairSupplies. Our customers have a common theme when they call...they want quality and they have a deadline. The quality expectations of our customers are very high because they value an American Made wood product that is crafted with the most expensive tools in the world, our hands. Our customers appreciate that every order is made to order specifically for them. We do not pull parts from a shelf where they have been sitting for years. Lumber is purchased specifically for each order, arrives and is milled and shipped typically within 2 weeks or less. Customers frequently come to us with special requests for a unique size or shape for a stair part. We accommodate with drawings and templates so that our customer can be sure that they are getting exactly what they want. The process of building a unique piece takes a little longer and our customers understand the value of communication and accuracy.
Our Founder
At an age of 4, our founder, Len Morris, liked to talk on the CB radio with his family members. When his dad asked him what he wanted his CB handle to be, he quickly answered "Carpenter." Len’s grandfather was a carpenter, as was his father. From an early age Grandpa taught Len the carpentry trade, including the pain of a hammer hitting a thumb. Decades later, Len has traded his hammer for computer controlled machinery and industrial power tools, but the lessons of precision and patience have stuck with him. Len spends most of his time researching new products and designs as well as monitoring the quality and processes throughout the shop. Len also visits customers to get a picture of their needs and purposes. Len's wife, Marci, is the controller of the company and plays a vital role in day to day operations. The Morris children are frequently found in the shop learning about the trade or the little one comes to ask Dad if she can help.
CEO and Lead Stair Specialist
Fernando Sainz has been with Stair Supplies since the beginning. Fernando has a very international family and has lived several places in California, Mexico and Indiana. Fernando has a strong sense of style and understanding of customer needs. He was appointed CEO in 2010 and continues to improve the processes for customer experience. In addition to design, Fernando personally selects the lumber that is used for his customers.
Exceptional Materials
The quality of the product we build is only as good as the raw materials that we use. StairSupplies is fussy about the lumber that arrives in her shop. For exotic wood species, we have partnered with Paxton Lumber, one of the larger suppliers of exotic lumber in the Midwest. Many of of the domestic wood species are grown near the shop and and are sourced through local sawmills. In every case we look carefully at the moisture content, grain patterns and color to give the customer a superior product. When we offer hardware and fastener solutions, we offer only the solutions that we would use ourselves. We select fasteners not because they are the fastest or the cheapest, but because they are the strongest and most long lasting.

Free Shipping on Orders Over $1650 Ship free to anywhere in the continental United States (restrictions apply). We ship with FedEx and common carriers, always using the safest and most economical sources to keep your costs to a minimum. We also have company trucks that deliver to the Midwest & East Coast, this is a safer more convenient service, that we hope to continue expanding. Most wood items ship out from our warehouse in 6-8 days, stock items ship in 24 – 48 hours. Please ask about rush shipping if you need your products sooner. Handrail or other pieces over 8' long must ship as Freight. FedEx does not deliver pieces over 8’. A stair specialist can help you by calling 1 866 226 6536. Return Policy * Stair Supplies builds all wood products "Just for you." Therefore, wood products are not returnable and orders are not able to be canceled. * Stock items made from iron can be returned for credit, less shipping and handling and a 30% restocking fee with an RGA number. Custom colors and parts are not returnable. * Product must be returned in its original full boxes, undamaged and in resalable condition. If you intend to return product we suggest adding packaging around the original packaging to ensure that it is in like new condition when we receive it so that we can issue you a refund. * A return authorization must first be requested from StairSupplies within 60 days from time of shipment. * No credit will be given if product is not returned to StairSupplies within 60 days from time of shipment. Defects/ Damaged Product * Defects/Damages must be reported within 72 hours of receiving product. Keep all shipping boxes and packaging supplies. * If damaged, the shipping company should be contacted and all shipping supplies must be kept intact. Digital pictures will be required in order to assess damages. After the shipping company has made their determination, new product will be shipped to the customer and payment will be made by party at fault. In order for StairSupplies to ship new product, the damaged product must be returned to StairSupplies or the customer may purchase product and a credit will be given when the determination of fault is established. Be sure to keep all shipping supplies.
