Newels    Newels/Newel posts are upright posts forming the balustrade backbone. Newel posts anchor the staircase railing ensuring that the staircase is durable and sturdy. Generally, one newel called a starting newel is placed at the bottom of stairs. A second newel is placed at the top of stairs called landing newel. Newels placed at landings where the handrail changes directions are called intermediate newels.

Newels are available in a multitude of styles and over twenty wood species. Newels can be either solid newels which are turned and box newels. Turned solid newels are made of solid wood, which is turned or milled for getting decorative profile. Box newels are made from hollow wooden boxes with a wooden cap molded at top and at times there is an ornament at the top.

Decorative newels will make a grand statement in your stairway. Rope twisting, fluting and reeding are available. Newels can be manufactured in 20 wood species. Call with your special requests.
