The 8010 is used as the first step for a stairway. You can order this starting step as a single end where only one end is rounded or as a double end with both ends rounded. The single end starting step, is designed where one end runs into the wall and the other end is rounded to accept a volute. The double end starting step is built to accept volutes on both ends. Starting steps are measured from the inside of the notch to the inside of the notch on the other end (this is called the Throat Cut). The overall length of a starting step is more than the size ordered by the amount of the round parts on the end or ends. The curved riser under the starting step is 7 1/2" tall. The diameter of the rounded ends on the tread is 12 1/2".
