The 4620 Box Newel combines a solid top with a hollow base, detailed with shoulder molding and the cap style of your choice. This 5” square box newel gives the same effect as our larger box newels, making it a favorite for smaller houses, apartments, or stairways with many newels. Perfect as an in-between size, the 4620 pairs well with 4600 or 4691 Plain Box Newels.

Mounting System
To install your 4620 Box Newel, you will need the Box Newel Mounting Kit. Follow our Installation Video to ensure a secure fit. The Box Newel may be installed either on the surface of the stair tread or beside the tread. Due to their precise edges, we have found that Box Newels look best on a square starting step.
Handrail Attachment
Join handrail to your 4620 Box Newel using a rail bolt kit. Many configurations allow handrail to mount directly into the newel; however, if your handrail is joining with your box newel on a rake, you may also require a gooseneck handrail attachment.
Splitting Box Newels
In order to maintain a consistent appearance when handrail must terminate into a wall, we offer Split Box Newels. Attach the partial newel to the wall, and your handrail can be secured like normal. If you would like your Box Newel split in half, please select “Split in Half” in the dropdown menu above.

Using the same quality product that cabinet makers require, this lacquer is designed to resist the natural oils from hands. We use this lacquer on all of our products that will be consistently touched, such as handrails, balusters, and newels. This layer of protection will keep your Box Newels looking smooth and stain free for years to come.

How would you install the mounting block if the floor is concrete?
Thanks for the question TMH.
These are designed for a wood floor. If you need to mount it to concrete, I might recommend drilling a hole in the concrete and using epoxy to attach a threaded metal rod into the hole and drill a hole wide enough for the rod all the way through the mounting block. Once the epoxy is completely set, slide the mounting block over the rod and tighten it down with a nut. Then you should still be able use nails or screws to attach the newel to the block.
